Meet The Speaker Nena Shimp Change Accelerator

December 18, 2025 by Gus Calabrese Leave a Comment

We are thrilled to introduce one of our upcoming featured speakers for the Utility Events stage: Nena Shimp. As the founder of ChangeAccelerators, Nena brings a unique perspective on human dynamics and the “Art of Questioning” to the utility sector.

From military life to the intricate world of beekeeping, Nena’s journey is as diverse as the change she facilitates. Get to know the woman behind the “Chief Change Accelerator” title in our latest Q&A.

1. The Superhero Alias

Q: What’s your name, title, and company—and if your role were a superhero alias, what would it be? Nena: I’m Nena Shimp, Chief Change Accelerator and founder of ChangeAccelerators. My superhero alias would be The Question Alchemist—because I turn simple questions into massive breakthroughs.

2. A Life on the Move

Q: How has family shaped the map of your life, and what’s a quirky tradition that makes you smile? Nena: My husband and I were both active-duty military when we met, leading to over 10 moves. While the recent moves have been the hardest because our boys are grown, we’ve perfected the art of making any house a home. We’ve learned that traditions that worked in the past might not fit the present—and we’ve become okay with evolving those memories.

3. The Utility Adventure

Q: What unexpected turn led you to the energy and utility world? Nena: I specialize in “any industry with people.” While some sectors like healthcare can be closed-off, I was pleasantly surprised by the utility industry. I was prepared to argue that I’ve been “in utilities” my whole adult life just by paying my bills! However, a warm introduction from Ashley showed me I already have a friend in this industry. I can’t wait to make more in Orlando.

4. Recharging the Batteries

Q: What is your “secret weapon” hobby for creative energy? Nena: Anything that gets me moving! Whether it’s training for the 2026 Marine Corps Marathon or just handling the daily chores on our ranch, physical activity is where my next big ideas are born.

5. Looking Ahead

Q: Where will you be 365 days from now? Nena: My new book will be published! I see it opening doors and expanding my reach to people I never would have met otherwise. I’m all about expanding connections as far and wide as possible.

6. Taming the Tech

Q: What’s the trickiest challenge you’re tackling right now? Nena: Learning how to make AI agents work for me as employees. I originally hoped to retire before AI became a “thing,” but it moved too fast! The key was to just start and find a great partner. Now, I’m learning to grow my business much “smarter.”

7. Lessons from the Hive

Q: Who is your current role model? Nena: Actually, it’s a group of Master Beekeepers on YouTube! I’ve been a beekeeper for two years now and it’s a struggle. I “stalk” these experts to learn how they grow such healthy hives. I’m determined to master it.

8. The Audacious Target

Q: What is your top ambition right now? Nena: My upcoming book and the “extensions” that go with it. It is destined to improve change results for everyone who engages with it.

9. The Next Breakthrough

Q: What are you counting down the days for? Nena: Turning my “Art of Questioning” presentation into a Master Class. There is so much more I can teach in an interactive, deep-dive setting than I can fit into a one-hour keynote.

10. A Heart of Gratitude

Q: What are you overflowing with thanks for right now? Nena: My six grandkids (ages 5 months to 12 years). Every moment I spend with them teaches me something new—usually about myself. They are the fuel for my fire.
