Back to Business
Ah – the last week of August means two things in our household/office – back-to-school for the kids and back-to-conferences for us! We are excited about our Fall events to see old friends, make new ones, and facilitate valuable business topics for our utility audience.
September’s Conferences are in Palm Springs! Why? Funny story! Our former sales rep from Caesars Entertainment now works for the Palm Springs Visitors and Convention Bureau. Since we’re friends, we took her recommendation to host conferences in the dessert paradise pretty seriously. The outcome? We’re packing our sunglasses, sunscreen, business cards, and refillable water bottles to host the 7th Change Management for Utilities conference (September 17-18) and the 2nd Process Excellence for Utilities conference (September 19-20) at the Rowan. Why the Rowan? Because it’s a new, cool, funky boutique property – which matches us to a tee! We hope to see you there.
Through the legendary connection powers of LinkedIn (I’ll admit my addiction to it now), Rebecca Mott of Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is joining us at the Process Excellence for Utilities conference to share their new program. In less than a year, it has achieved 27% participation of its workforce – AND – that participation is from across the entire enterprise. For anyone in a utility, that’s an impressive statistic. In public power, even more so. She’ll tell us all about it next month in Palm Springs!

You’ve heard of “man crush.” We’ll admit it…we have a “company crush” on Prosci. They are the leaders in Change Management. Hands down. So you can imagine our excitement when Lisa Kempton, Prosci’s Senior Development Partner, confirmed to run a hands-on workshop on How to Build a Change Scorecard for Your Project at the 7th Change Management for Utilities conference next month in Palm Springs. How hands-on is it? It is BRING-YOUR-OWN-LAPTOP hands-on. Like, you’re going to create your scorecard IN THE WORKSHOP to bring back to your office. This is such a valuable tool for change professionals, you can imagine how giddy we are that these rock stars are strutting their stuff at our event. For YOU!
Next
Yesterday I received a bit of a surprise – a new speaker confirmed to present at the 3rd ADVANCE: The Power Conference for Women in Utilities (October 17-18 in San Diego). I can’t tell you who it is just yet, but I promise we’ll announce it in a few days – so check back to see who it is and what she’ll talk about. HINT: She’ll provide valuable ideas for utilities trying to figure out how to recruit, retain, mentor, and advance women on a beer budget. Which is most of us, right?
