A: Valerie Nuzum, Change Management Consultant, Expert – Pacific Gas & Electric

Q: Family, hometown, where you live?
A: Married, native Californian, live in Walnut Creek, CA.

Q: What is your Utility experience?
A: Primary background in healthcare, approximately 4 years utility experience. Organization Development and Change Management experience, 19 years.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not working? Hobbies?
A: Jazz musician (flute and vocals); animals (dogs, cats, rabbits); gardening (vegetables and roses); photography.

Q: Notable achievements?
A: Finishing grad school mid-life; being able to succeed as both self-employed external consultant and internal consultant.

Q: Where do you see Change Management in utilities in two years?
A: Busier than ever, tackling the impacts of solar power and the renewable energy requirements of customers, while facing the challenge of tighter budgets.

Q: What is your biggest challenge?
A: Getting leaders to understand how critical their role is in leading change.

Q: What did you do prior to your current role?
A: Self-employed OT/change management/training consultant for 12 years.

Q: Who are a couple of your role models (and why)?
A: Brenee Brown for how she has helped so many people by widely communicating the results of her psychological research and what an effective communicator she is.

Q: What is one of your big goals?
A: To have professional writing published.

Q: What is the biggest misconception you run into in your role?
A: Change management = training and communications, and that’s it.
