Amy Jahns

Q: Name, title, company?
A: Amy Jahns, Senior Communications Specialist, We Energies

Q: Family, hometown, where you live?
A: I’m married to my high school sweetheart. We have two children. We live in Glendale, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee.

Q: What is your Utility experience?
A: I’ve been working for the utility company for 18 months.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not working? Hobbies?
A: My family loves to spend time in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. We swim, canoe and kayak all the beautiful lakes. In the wintertime, we snowshoe along many trails in the woods.

Q: Notable achievements?
A: I volunteer for an Ovarian Cancer run/walk in Milwaukee, providing public relations and social media support. It is the activity that I am most proud of and means the most to me.

Q: Where do you see Social Media in utilities in two years?
A: Right now, many utility companies have created social media channels as another optional choice for communication to customers. In two years, I suspect it will become and expected option and could be the leading choice in customer communication.

Q: What is your biggest challenge?
A: Those of us that understand the value of social media now, need to be patient as our companies and c-suites begin to understand what a priority social media should be to our companies.

Q: What did you do prior to working in your utility?
A: I was a manager of a television news room.

Q: Who are a couple of your role models (and why)?
A: My role models have been either teachers or former managers. They each had different qualities of understanding, educating and making me a better professional.

Q: What is one of your big goals?
A: I would like to lead a social media team that advances company objectives and delivers a new level of customer service.

Q: What is the biggest misconception you run into in your role?
A: Utilities are often thought of as uncaring. I want our customers to know how hard everyone works at my company to satisfy our neighbors who are the customers we serve.
